Legendary sofas.

History

August Frommholz commenced the production of wickerwork in Danzig. Thus laying the foundation for the company's history of success.
The founder's son, Carl, followed in his father's footsteps and qualified as a master craftsman in 1891.
The basket makers' guild celebrated the company's 50th anniversary with the award of a snuffbox. But the company was forced to leave Danzig following World War I.
Carl Frommholz and his son, Walter, moved the company's headquarters to the district of Herford.
From small beginnings in Spenge, they quickly built up a thriving business. Which, from 1928, started to concentrate increasingly on manufacturing upholstered furniture.
Frommholz was already a regular at the renowned furniture fair that took place at Leipzig's Ring Trade-Fair Center by 1931. The autumn and spring trade fairs were very important to the international world of business. The sign on the door when business at the trade fairs was successful said, "Sold out!"
Walter Frommholz continued to rapidly expand the company. He relocated it to a former cigar factory and expanded it several times.
The company continued to grow quickly. But then World War II started and both Walter Frommholz and his son, Harald, were called up for military service.
Frommholz was permitted to make mattresses, prams and upholstered furniture. Things started to move fast in Germany after the war.
Frommholz exhibited at the furniture fair in Cologne.
Harald Frommholz took over the company and brought it right up to date.
The company's current premises with a production area of 16,000 m² were completed.
Dirk-Walter Frommholz joined the company – the fifth generation to do so.
The production area was increased to 20,000 m². Dirk-Walter Frommholz focused on positioning the brand in the classical premium sector. He dedicated himself to social questions in the Verband der Deutschen Polstermöbel-Industrie (German Association for the Upholstered Furniture Industry) and the Industrie und Handelskammer Ostwestfalen (Chamber of Commerce and Industry in East Westphalia).
The baton was handed down to the sixth generation. Gero Walter Frommholz had prepared carefully for his new task. By first graduating in business studies at the Fachhochschule der Wirtschaft (FHDW – Advanced Business College) in Paderborn and then graduating at the renowned Harrington College of Design in Chicago where he focused on international furniture design.
Frommholz is one of the oldest companies in the furniture sector. The family has passed on the knowledge that success in the future is built on continuous change through the generations. The sturdiest trees are the ones that are rooted strongly in the past but that continue to grow powerful shoots for the future. And that's the way we are, too.
